Good Food, Friends and Gift Shows

New York, New York
January 31 - February 4, 2011

This week mom and I were in NYC for the New York International Gift Fair. Mom likes to attend the fair for her event floral business. I like to go to see what new businesses are out there. I also use it as an opportunity to meet with my ornament supplier.

Epsy, my ornament supplier, and I went to dinner on Tuesday night at Koi. The food was quite good and we had a nice time socializing. On Wednesday night I had another great dinner with mom and our friends Megan and Julie. We ate at a small Italian place in Midtown and laughed for three hours. We had so much fun on Wednesday that we decided to meet up on Thursday night as well.

Thursday morning mom and I wrapped up our shopping at the gift fair and then went to La Grenouille for lunch. La Grenouille is a French restaurant in Midtown that mom had seen on the Martha Stewart show. The restaurant is known in part for its lavish flower displays. After eating there I would say it should also be known for its ridiculously good food and service. I’ve eaten in quite a few nice restaurants but I would say overall this is the most pleasant dining experience I’ve ever had. My whole meal was delicious but hands down the best part was the Les Oeufs à la Neige. This dessert is a combination of many of my favorite things, including meringues, spun sugar and vanilla custard. If you are ever in New York and looking to spend $17 on dessert, I highly recommend the Les Oeufs à la Neige at La Grenouille.

On Thursday night mom and I continued our day of eating by going to 21 Club with Megan and Julie. Julie somehow managed to talk one of the servers into saving the best seats in the house for us. It was great. We had the four large fireside red wing chairs in the bar area. After our meal we went to see Jersey Boys. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. I had no idea how many hit songs were originally recorder by the Four Season. I anticipate the songs will be stuck in my head for weeks to come.

Overall this was a great gift fair week in NYC. I’m looking forward to the 2012 edition already!

Until the next adventure.
