Seattle Shenanigans

October 26-28, 2012
Seattle, WA

This weekend I was in Seattle to see my doctor and play with my best friends and their boys. Friday I flew up to Seattle, got my laptop fixed, saw my doctor and shopped until my friends arrived.

The purpose of our trip, other than seeing each other, was to visit the King Tutt exhibit at the Pacific Science Center. I think a good time was had by all. I thought the exhibit was going to include a few more large pieces but it was still enjoyable. Our museum trip participants included my friends Ilsa and Bailey, their boys Jesse and Mark, Mark’s friend Shawn, Ben and his friends Tara and Alexander.

After the museum most of us went to lunch at a local sports bar where we watched football and filled up on goodness. Post lunch Bailey, Ilsa, Ben, Jess and I went to explore Pikes Market and other parts of downtown Seattle. We rounded out the evening with a little bit of shopping, some coffee, more food, more football and a stroll around the Space Needle at night. Back at the hotel Ilsa, Bailey and I stayed up way too late telling stories and laughing.

Sunday morning was upon us in the blink of an eye. Bailey, Mark and I all had fairly early flights out, so our weekend ended early. Even though the weekend was short, it was a blast. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we all get together again!

Until next week in LA,
Katy

Ducks in the Dessert

October 17-19, 2012
Phoenix, AZ

This midweek Ben and I went to Phoenix for the ASU vs Oregon football game. We arrived in Phoenix around 8pm on Wednesday evening. After securing the rental car we made our way toward Joe and Han-Mei’s condo. We hadn’t had dinner so we decided to make a quick stop at In-N-Out for some burgers and fries. Joe met us at the condo upon our arrival at 9:30pm. The three of us had a nice conversation until Joe had to go to bed. Poor Joe and HM had to leave for work at 4:30am, so I was proud of Joe-Joe for staying up as late as he did!

Thursday Ben and I had a leisurely day. We went out to lunch at a place called ZTejas. The food was pretty good but the free cornbread was awesome! Ben had some work to do, so while he worked I checked out the Last Chance Nordstroms. The Last Chance is pretty much the clearance store for the Racks. Some of the stuff is straight up trash but others are pretty good finds. I bought my mom a couple pairs of her favorite shoes for 80% off. I also bought Ben a pair of board shorts for $10.

Joe and HM cut their workdays short so we could make it to kick off on time. The game started at 6pm and it was over before the start of the second quarter. The Ducks gave up a quick touchdown but after that it was ALL Ducks until halftime where the score was 43-7. The saving grace for the second half was that I ran into my friend Bethann who I hadn’t seen in years. She was hilarious as ever and did a fantastic job of entertaining us all during the fourth quarter. Joe and HM had another early morning, so they hit the hay when we returned to the condo. Ben and I decided to check out the hot tub and the pool to enjoy the 75 degree evening.

Friday we met Joe and HM for lunch at a fun random place near their job site called Oregano’s. After lunch Ben and I hit up the pool for some final Vitamin D before heading back to a rainy Oregon fall. Joe and HM came home from work an hour or so before we needed to leave for the airport, so we had time for a quick game of Qwirkle. I got my butt kicked but still loved that we got to play.

Our trip home took forever thanks to SFO’s air traffic control. Both our flights were significantly delayed. We finally landed in the EUG a little after 2:30am. All in it was a very fun short trip for Ben’s first ever football game!

Until Seattle next weekend,
Katy
